Since my last article the office has been very busy, and as we approach the school holidays it will become even busier.
Occasionally I have the opportunity to do something different, and one such occasion is Member’s Night where I have the chance to put faces to names! I speak to so many members over the phone so it is always nice to meet them in person.

Jane looking after the wine on members night |
My task on this evening is to serve the wine and soft drinks. This can be very enjoyable, and I haven’t had to bar anyone yet!! Once everyone has dispersed it is clear-up time ready to go and watch the evening’s entertainment.

Ferrets |
One other event I have helped with is the ferret racing at our local village fete. Having never handled a ferret before it was quite daunting, but with expert guidance I avoided any bites, though I did end up a bit smelly!

Runner Ducks |
The one time that I regretted offering my services was when I agreed to take the runner ducks down to the fete. Carefully positioned bales were meant to keep them in, but no, they hopped over the top and were off down to the river! This caused great amusement as we tried to round them up. My only thought was how I could explain this to Ashley! I had lost the ducks. More by luck than skill they were eventually rounded up and placed back behind the bales (now having been made higher). Quite a stressful time for me and the ducks!! Never again to be repeated.
